[A kid with dark, slicked back hair and an unhealthy amount of twitchiness about him sits quietly on a Xanadu park bench in the early afternoon (because everyone loev backdating), alternately smoking and drinking coke. From an oldschool glass bottle, and everything! When he lifts up the bottle and the sleeve of his jean jacket falls down past his right wrist, a dark rash that engulfs his hand up to the second knuckle of each of his fingers becomes visible. When he sets the coke back down and the sleeve covers it up again, rinse and repeat, until he realizes other people can walk by and see it (in which case he will be hiding it in his pocket.)

Until then he's back to smoking and... wait for it, wait for it! Hell yeah, he's bored enough to start blowing smoke rings. Someone distract him, stat!]

[ooc: Hi! Would anyone care to join me for a delicious plate of Open Action Spam? I really need to get Johnny out and establish some more CR, but he's mostly too shy to comment around, so... :( help me, Obi-Wan Kepoly. You're my only hope!

ALSO: He is very, very infected and cursed! cough. but he doesn't really keep up with the network because he reads pretty slow etc, so he doesn't realize he should be quarantining himself yet.]

[Sam was taking a break from cleaning up the warehouse from the earthquake and found himself wandering Xanadu. There he sees a guy about his own age but a few decades behind him smoking.]

Someone should probably tell you those give you cancer. The cigarettes, not the coke.

[Johnny jumped a little in the seat like Sam had shouted "boo!" instead, and blew out a lungful of smoke forcefully before he choked on it.]

Well, it ain't like it'd kill me, I'm dead already.

[Oops, slightly more blunt than he'd intended.]

[Sam winced at that. He probably should be more careful about that sort of thing.]

Oh, man, I'm sorry to hear that.

[Sam stuck out his hand.]

Sam Witwicky.

[Johnny shrugged; he hadn't meant to make the situation so awkward, it just sort of came out.]

It don't bother me anymore.

[He shrugged a shoulder, then shook with his left hand.]

Johnny Cade. [A pause!] You aren't from the 60's, are you?

[ooc: Sorry about the delay! I had classes all day today.]

Well, that's good I guess.

[Sam sat down on the bench next to Johnny. If Sam was a more diligent student, that name might mean something.]

No, I'm from 2008.

[Johnny just stared over at Sam there for a second, before shaking his head as though to clear it.]

Shoot. I ain't ever gonna get used to that.

[He paused and snubbed out his cigarette on the side of the bench opposite of where Sam was sitting, before debating how much he should even be asking, what with being too dead to look forward to experiencing 2008 for himself.]

What's it like?

It's a lot like here. You know, except without all the wizards and vampires and aliens and robots.

[Technically, there were aliens and robots in Sam's world, but they weren't that common.]

Lots of computers and cellphones and such.

Oh.

[Sam your alien robots are the coolest thing ever though.]

Well we got computers, too, they just ain't so... small. [An earnest pause...] A whatphone?

Yeah, take up entire rooms and stuff. I remember reading about that in school.

[Sam reached into his pocket and dug out his cell phone.]

A cellular phone. Basically a phone without a cord and it has the internet, which is like the network, only bigger. You can play songs on it and watch videos too, if you have a nice one.

[Johnny can't help but stare at it, trying to smother the awe with a blank expression, because it's pretty tuff.]

So it's a tiny radio and television, too?

[He's having a rough time wrapping his head around it so he just goes the safe road of asking,]

Is that one a nice one?

Date: 2009-05-03 06:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com
Yeah, pretty much. And it's fairly nice.

[Sam moved through a few options on the phone before it started playing Linkin Park.]

See? Music.

From: [identity profile] thelastandleast.livejournal.com
[Ahaha Sam now you just get A Look. He comes from the era of Elvis and the Beatles and hippies strumming on their guitars, he does not know what to do with Linkin Park.]

..... That's music?

[Sam rolled his eyes.]

You sound like my dad.

[Johnny wrinkled his nose.]

Well it don't sound like nothin' I ever heard. Don't you got Elvis or anything in 2008?

[Sam hesitated for a moment. Should he tell him Elvis and two of the Beatles were dead? Since Johnny was dead it probably didn't matter.]

Yeah, but Elvis died in the 70's. And the Beatles broke up and John was killed and George died not too long ago.
